When they said anything...

They say that anything can be used for God's purpose. And today was yet another confirmation of that observation. Lo and behold, today at the weekly BSU lunch, they showed clips of the mediocre Napoleon Dynamite (I have to mention how much I hate this movie). Our intern managed to incorporate them into the message of the day. Sigh.

On the school newspaper front, my editor wants me to write about the evolution stickers on science textbook thing. Secretly, even though I'm moderate, I'm the conservative because of the heavily left leanings of the other writers. I guess I could write up what he wants me to write, something advocating the stickers. Not sure if I want to put up the effort as my muse seems to be rather quiet at the moment.

Week draining me as I burned up two op amps in electronics lab and yet I still didn't finish all the circuits. Friday needs to come sooner.

You poor darling...

Can you explain to me what the evolution stickers are? Also, since you are Christian, I would be really interested to hear your take on evolution. I understand if you don't want this to turn into some giant debate...you can always e-mail me if you would rather.

Or, technically, you can just not answer. :)

I'll let this CNN article explain.

As for the evolution thing, that'll have to wait when I can spare more of my mental abilities. Perhaps tomorrow if I feel so inclined.

Evolution is a theory. Just like universal gravitation, special relativity, and germ medicine.

Comments like that may be why people look at me strangely.

As much as creationism is a theory. And yes, these kinds of statements are a big deal for some odd reason.

[identity profile] sarnath.livejournal.com 2005-01-20 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Technically speaking, creationism is not a theory in the same way universal gravitation is a theory.

Well, you could start the discussion on why evolution is singled out for a sticker, whereas no other theories in the science book are.

An excellent point. I'll be sure to include that in the article whenever I get around to it.

Don't advocate what you don't want to advocate.

One of the things that annoys me is that political discourse has to be out on the fringes these days. As a liberal I hate to be represented by people who are so far out they look nuts. I am sure that as a moderate-right person, you hate to be represented by nutjobs as well. Represent YOURSELF.
