About that Truman scholarship...
I got rejected. Well, to put it more politely, "The selection committee decided that the Truman competition was not the best match for your talents and goals." I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed. It's not too surprising, though, as my GPA is kind of low for these things. Also, the Truman is a public service scholarship, and I don't have an overwhelming service resume. However, it's probably a good thing. This frees up time for me to do other things. And I've learned a lot about myself in the process.
That's one door that has closed.

My honest opinion is that if this is something that you really want, you'll have a lot more luck next year, because you'll have time to get your resume into ship-shape, or atleast what they consider to be ship-shape.
I encourage you to not dwell on this, because, lets be honest. If you really wanted it, you would have gotten it. There's a difference between not being willing to and not being able to put enough effort into something.

D, I am so sorry. You must be so disappointed...and I wish I knew what to say. You worked so hard on this, and I am sad for you.
But remember that these things work out for a reason. Doors and windows, right?

If anything it could be the universe telling you that you're meant for something better than politics.
