About that Truman scholarship...

I got rejected. Well, to put it more politely, "The selection committee decided that the Truman competition was not the best match for your talents and goals." I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed. It's not too surprising, though, as my GPA is kind of low for these things. Also, the Truman is a public service scholarship, and I don't have an overwhelming service resume. However, it's probably a good thing. This frees up time for me to do other things. And I've learned a lot about myself in the process.

That's one door that has closed.

I don't think this was ever meant for you. Its a scholarship for the sort of thing that you haven't been doing much on your own, and you would only wind up being forced into doing later on, anyway.

My honest opinion is that if this is something that you really want, you'll have a lot more luck next year, because you'll have time to get your resume into ship-shape, or atleast what they consider to be ship-shape.

I encourage you to not dwell on this, because, lets be honest. If you really wanted it, you would have gotten it. There's a difference between not being willing to and not being able to put enough effort into something.

Apologies if this seemed harsh...a lot of my friends in real life hate platitudes or anything resembling it, so sometimes I forget other people aren't like that.

No need to apologize. You should say what's on your mind. So I'll say this: Some things that you really want, you don't get. And that is because that is God's will.
