Normally, I write a huge post on Monday mornings but my trip to Tulsa didn't leave me any time. Instead, I'll play a meme from [livejournal.com profile] fub.

Comment and I will give you 3 interests on your list, and 3 icons, for you to explain. Then you must post the answers in your own journal and allow others to comment.

Now, I'll post my answers to Mr. Fub...

deep conversations
There's one thing that my high school inner circle has in common: We are very fond of sarcasm. While this naturally put us at a distance from most people, with each other we could be brutally honest. And from these conversations I would form many of the philosophies that would later guide me in life. You can only be my friend if I can make fun of you and you can make fun of me. For you see, sarcasm literally means "to tear one's flesh". Once we've stripped away each other's facades, we can't help but have deep conversations with each other.

positive pessimism
Have you ever heard of the power of positive thinking? Well, I equate thinking with pessimism. That is to say, in order to be a true thinker, you have to think on the negative side of things too well. This is probably because I grew up in a Southern Baptist Church, where we're taught to believe in the absolute good. My contrarian nature told me that there had to be another way. I'm still working on it, but basically if you're pessimistic in a negative situation, then you can apply your pessimism in a positive manner.

robotech
Robotech is often considered to merely be a bastardized amalgamation of three separate Japanese animes. And it is. But it's the first anime I ever watched, so it holds a special place in my heart. I'm a sucker for multigenerational stories. Plus, there's a touch of accidental genius in the series that is difficult to pinpoint. I won't say it's the best anime out there, but it is definitely my most favorite.

This is Gendo Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion. I use this icon in response to anytime someone uses an icon from Eva. In a more general situation, I use this icon for a post or comment that is Machiavellian in nature.

I've called this icon the "Political Donkey-Elephant". The amazing [livejournal.com profile] renough made this one for me during the 2004 election. At the current time, American politics is controlled by the two-party system. This has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that it pools the best talents under either one of two banners. The disadvantages are that change is difficult to come by because one party will inevitably oppose the viewpoint of the other party. If a third party had a truly revolutionary idea, then it would simply be co-opted by both parties before it could really take off the ground. I use this icon for the vast majority of my posts and comments on American politics.

The idea for this icon is stolen straight from one of the T-shirts that the webcomic 8-bit Theatre sells. It's a play on words for geeks. "Saving" in Dungeons and Dragons terms means preventing damage by rolling high numbers on a dice for defense. Then there's the churchy definition of the term "saving", i.e. converting someone. I use this icon for all of my religious posts and comments.

What a cool meme! I don't get positive pessimism, though--do the negative situation and your pessimism cancel each other out? Explain. And ask me about my interests and icons!

It's not that the negative situation and my pessimism cancel each other out. Remember, in simple arithmetic, a negative multiplying by a negative produces a positive result. It's the same way for most negative situations and my positive pessimism.

Wow, I can only choose three each for you? Hmmm, okay after quite a bit of thought I narrowed it down to the following choices:

Interests
being super kawaii!!. female quixotism, sapiosexuality

I still don't get the positive pessimism, but let's leave it there. ;)

1. being super kawaii!!
Kawaii means cute in japanese. Being super kawaii means to be super cute. It's actually a joke--I hate being told I'm cute, though sometimes I really can't help it.

2. female quixotism
The adjective quixotic comes from Don Quixote de la Mancha, the ultimate errant knight. Impractical as only he could be, he rode hell-bent on reaching the unreachable star! Chasing windmills! A tragic romantic--features of which are present in ever so many women I know.

3. sapiosexuality
Sapience means wisdom or intelligence. Sapiosexuality has come to mean a sexual attraction to intelligence, like sapiophilia. But I think of it more as meaning wise sexuality.

Icons:
1. A few years ago, a quixotic girlfriend and I bitched and moaned about our relationships so much that we felt like vomiting, so we called ourselves the Vomiting Princesses of Doom. That eventually became a community where more women congregated to emotionally vomit and the first few got Sailor Moon icons because... I don't know why, frankly, that's just what I was feeling at the moment.

2. My sister and I. At McDonald's in Lima, of ALL places. LOL.

3. Jackie O. She could handle everything. The way some people ask, "What Would Jesus Do?", I ask, "What Would Jackie Do?"
