Hehe, looks like you were still thinking about it.
Being nice is a handy social skill. It makes so many things easier, and gets you favours, admiration and other things from other people. Being nice seems to mean going out of your way to please others, but it's often little more than remember what someone has said to you and smile instead of being totally honest.
I think nice guys finish middle of the pack, because some people will walk over you when you're nice, but others will appreciate it. I do my best to be nice, because I want to be liked by others. Not at all costs, but just because being liked is more pleasant than being hated.
I didn't answer your second question...because I didn't think any of the answers were correct. Depending on the situation and the "guy", nice guys can finish first, last or in the middle of the pack. Nice doesn't doom you, neither does it exalt you.
In some situations, being nice is vital. In others, being nice is either optional or even detrimental. Knowing the difference between the two is a very important skill that will make life much easier.
