Random thoughts, 10-23-04
Oct. 23rd, 2004 07:04 pmTim Wakefield is pitching for the Red Sox Game 1. I'm watching cause it'll be one of the few opportunities to see a knuckleballer start a World Series game. I remember Wakefield getting his start with my team, the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Did you know that Wakefield started out as a third baseman? When he wasn't going to make it as a position player, one of the Pirates minor league coaches noticed that he had a pretty good knuckleball. The rest, as they say, is history. Wakefield won two complete games for the Pirates against the Braves in that memorable series when a no name Francisco Cabrera won the NLCS for Atlanta.
I went on a BSU retreat named Deepend Weekend this year. It was exactly the break that I needed.
It's strange to be reminded of how much influence you have in your everyday life.
Just when all the guys got comfortable in our cabin bunks, a random freshman asked, "Are we going to leave the bathroom light on?"
I responded, if it annoys you that much, get up and turn it off yourself.
After quite a bit of laughter, the random freshman got up and turned off the bathroom light.
