For those of you considering a Christmas gift for a kid or family, I suggest Pass the Pigs. It's addictively fun and helps teach kids math. I happen to think it'd be an excellent solution to the education problem in my home state of Arkansas. We're the Razorbacks, for goodness sake.

Editorial Review
How's your tolerance for puns? You'll need some for Pass the Pigs, a simple game of chance built around a pig theme. Instead of dice, you roll two cute pink piglets, and you gain or lose points depending on how the critters land. For example, if both land on all fours, called a "double trotter," you get 20 points; if they land lying opposite each other, called a "Pig Out," you gain no points and cede your turn. There are a number of other rules as well as a variation called "Hog Call." This would be a good travel game (the pigs, instructions, and scoring pad fit in a small, tidy box) or a fine present for someone who's, well, into pigs! --Elisa Murray

From the Manufacturer
Go hog wild with the pig-tastic game, Pass the Pigs. Players attempt to rack up points by rolling the pig dice¿but if they're not careful they might Pig Out and lose all their points. Pass the Pigs is the sizzlin' fun, shakin' bacon game!

The point of the game is to "roll" two pigs. Depending on how they land, you'll get a certain amount of points. Normally, you try to get to one hundred, or you see has the most points for a set amount of rounds. You can roll the pigs as many times as you want on your turn, but if you roll a "Pig Out" you lose all the points you've gotten so far and have to pass the pigs (i.e. give up your turn). At any time you can bank your points and pass the pigs as well.

I must warn you that this game is stupid. But it's addictively fun. Especially when you have people like me getting into people's heads. There's nothing like seeing people hesitiate when you tell them "STOP! You're going to Pig Out!" and then watching them Pig Out.

The pigs know, they sense the fear.

You can find an online version that you can play online against a computer opponent here. In this version, the goal is to get a better score than the computer after ten rounds.
