Two Cent Thoughts, 11-25-05
Nov. 25th, 2005 08:59 amI just got the new AIM Triton. It’s got a different graphical interface from the AOL Instant Messenger we’re used to, but I got used to it rather quickly. There are three noticeable advantages of the Triton:
1. All your IMs are handled in one window. When you are talking to more than one person at a time, a tab opens up on the left side to keep track of who you are talking to. Triton has an option to save your conversation even if you close or disconnect, so as soon as you IM the person again you can see a short log of what you said before.
2. An IM catcher handles all unknown users. So if a random buddy wants to add you, you can screen their message line to see if you want to talk to them or not. Otherwise, you can put spam IM from hotchixxx3788 on ignore.
3. XM Radio with 150 stations. They have a few classical stations, oldies, an anime radio station, and there’s even a video game station. I'm listening to the ending song from Tales of Symphonia right now.
I’d at least take a look see if you use AIM. It works on both Windows and Macs, and there’s even a vision for Linux peoples.

Thanksgiving meal included turkey, homemade mashed potatoes, gravy, corn on the cob, and chocolate cake with ice cream. I’m still full…
Supposedly, small turkeys aren’t as good as large ones.

Crumpler scored more points than Dunn and Anderson, the RBs for the team I'm up against this week. I’m so confident that I sent a message to our league board pronouncing the other guy had already lost. And I won’t eat crow this time either.

Random Jameson just compared World of Warcraft to blogging. Writing is like gaining experience. Seeking to be linked in other journals is a quest. Getting mentioned on a news station is slaying a dragon.
He just wants me to get sucked into the MMORPG world. I never started Everquest, and I won't start WoW now no matter how newbie friendly it is.

What brand of orange juice do you drink? I'm a big fan of Tropicana's Calcium enriched OJ.

Date: 2005-11-25 04:17 pm (UTC)Now here's the weird part:
When I was a kid, I couldn't stand the little tiny pieces of pulp swishing around in my mouth or the thought of them going down my throat. Hence, no more orange juice for me. And I've always called those little pulp thingy's "skinnies"!
Yes, I know .... I'm a strange one, very strange.

I don't tend to like MMORPGs, but I really enjoy WoW because you don't wind up grinding for levels (killing monsters over and over and over again). There are so many quests and other ways to level that you don't have to do it. Plus, there are lots of 'skills' you can work on honing, such as fishing, first aid, and cooking, you can collect recipies (yay!) and learn more useful skills like enchanting, herbalism, alchemy, etc.
They even found a way to make the PvP aspect about more than just griefing to the point that -I- enjoy competing against other players, and that's saying a lot. There are battlegrounds where teams of ten alliance go up against ten hoarde players in games like capture the flag and king of the hill. It's fun seeing the teamwork that spontaniously occurrs.
If you ever get sucked in, my characters are on the Shadow Council server ;) I've got both an Alliance and a Hoarde character.
In other news, right now I'm drinking Tropicana's Immunity Defense, which I credit with keeping me from getting sick until now because I've been REALLY punishing my body this month. I actually beat off one cold before I caught this one, and this one isn't nearly as bad, so far, as my colds usually are. It didn't get down into my lungs, which is almost always does.
In other, OTHER news, I'm gonna have a look at the AIM Triton, and thank you for recommending it :)

If you're trying out Triton, just send me an IM. My screenname is Ratstrike0 (don't ask, I've had it since the fourth grade).
Re: WoW drone
Date: 2005-11-25 09:18 pm (UTC)I hear that people getting sucked into WoW can be a problem. A friend of mine had to delete his account because he was having trouble in school due to WoW. I tend to get bored after a while, so it's not so bad with me. But I get sucked into turn-based strategy games so badly that I don't allow myself to play them.

Date: 2005-11-25 05:18 pm (UTC)I don't like AOL Explorer that is automatically installed, or any of the other junk that they loaded onto my system (look through the AOD folder). AIM catcher was picking up my messages from everyone - even the people on my buddy list. And with everything in one window, i'd miss new messages as they came in.
Just my two cents though, if you enjoy it...feel free to keep doing so:-P

Date: 2005-11-25 05:24 pm (UTC)I just love the idea of having free XM radio attached to AIM. It's brilliant in my humble opinion.
Although, feel free to be obstinate and stay attached to your old fashioned methods. ;-P

Date: 2005-11-25 06:02 pm (UTC)That's in addition to things like the XM Top 20, where people around the world email or txt message their favorite pop song to be put on the list. If you don't like a song, another station is a click away.
Yeah, I like the XM radio with AIM. It's genius. Pure genius.
