[rant]Folks, I am brutally straightforward. The price of my friendship is that I will sharpen you, and you will sharpen me (Proverbs 27:17). If you do not like it, you are not going to be my friend for very long. This applies to my friends online and in real life. Especially in real life.[/rant]

I wished Red Cross Girl good luck on her chem final today. There's a story behind why she is Red Cross Girl, but there's also a bad poem...
From a place called OKC
Comes a Clara cute as can be,
She always quotes many quotes,
for she takes many studious notes.
Yet in physics she never sours,
thanks to her magnificent math powers.
And she likes to play many a game
So don't mistake her for a helpless dame.
Into a ball she will never curl
for she is fearless as...RED CROSS GIRL!

Quote of the Day:
"Cole's Axiom: The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant. The population is growing...

I don't like where this is going."-Red Cross Girl

Link of the Day:
Oedipus complex any? They do say that boys tend to fall for girls like their mothers, but this is taking it too far. (thanks [livejournal.com profile] cheesentoast)

Somebody asked me to describe the typical Southern Baptist message. And I quote...

*coughs*

*puts on his Southern Baptist preacher drawl*

"Look around at this world. Look at it. What's wrong with America these days? Is it because the economy is failing? Are we losing our morale because our men our dying in Iraq? No. It is because America has forgotten the Lord our God Almighty. It has forgotten the principles that our great nation has been built upon. It has forgotten that it is one Nation under God. How do I know this? When we have people attacking displays of the Ten Amendments in our courts, the people have lost their faith. Without God, how can we have justice?! And then the gay agenda is trying to subvert our culture and all our young children by making homosexuality a normal thing. They want make an abomination of nature a normal thing! They even want to kill God given life through legalizing abortion. Every life is precious! My brothers and sisters in Christ, I ask you to look past that. You must love all these sinners as God has commanded us. Do not be afraid to proclaim the name of Christ, yes, the name of Christ that will one day have all nations bowing down to it. You will not be responsible for lost ones if you did your part. Stand up for the one who shed His blood for you! God loves everyone! If our Heavenly Father can love those unrepentant sinners who are dragging America down, how much more will our Father love those who freely choose him? Do not despair! God is with us! Now, let us turn to..."

*coughs*

*resumes using his normal voice*

It amuses me, really. I like hearing these Southern Baptist types though because Don Corleone always said, "Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer."

What is the key spice that gives Spanish paella is distinctive flavor? Can anyone give me a good recipe for paella?

You realize the story you linked to is from the Weekly World News, and therefore almost certainly fiction, right?

Yeah, the line that gives it away is when his mom writes something about scanning a cutie out of a men's magazine. My bullcrap detector went off.

But it's like one of those cool theoretical plays in Magic. Sure, that five card combo is clunky, but it's just cool when it works.

What clicks it for me is anytime someone links to a Yahoo! news story, I look in the URL. If I see "/wwn/" in there, I know it's fake. But even fiction can be funny. :)

Naturally, the preacher would be interrupted by several "Amen, brother"'s and a couple of "praise the Lord!"'s, wouldn't he?

She asked for the text of the message, not what generally happens during the message.

Not too bad a synopsis of something that might be heard from a Southern Baptist pulpit. Pretty sure I've heard it a time or two.

Ahhhh Cole's Axiom. Gotta love it. ^_^

I don't know that I have 28 points worth of confidence in TU. Sounds bad, I know, but I'd be a lot more confident that Southern Miss will win the "New Orleans/Lafayette/Relocation Bowl" as one CBSSportsline.com writer put it. I will be wagering fairly high on our alma mater, though. I'll probably put 1 point on Texas since they're so evenly matched with USC. I'm always down for a Big 12 national champion, even if it ends up being that evil state to the south. ;)

I've attended the same conservative church for 22 years and have seen five different pastors. None of them have ever straight up criticized homosexuality or secularization. Our current minister has even said that laws about public religion aren't automatically bad because while those laws may dampen our lives, they ultimately protect us from public sponsorship of other religions.
