Welcome
The Polymer Potter has joined LJ. Welcome, and I'm glad to have you on my ever constant quest to improve my writing.

Feature article
It took me two weeks to write it, but I wrote the feature article for this week's issue of my campus newspaper. It was on budget cuts and how why several programs were scaled back and why certain students lost jobs. Actually, it was supposed to have been written a month ago but the article fell through when the writer couldn't contact administration. And so the article sat on our queue for like two or three weeks before I decided to take it.

I figured that I'm the Opinion Editor and I should be hated anyways so I didn't mind talking to administration. Fortunately, I found out that there's a certain person who is in charge of "institutional advancement" that I can contact to force administrators to schedule an interview with me. Then I wore a suit to the interview (despite the fact that I despise wearing suits).

I just wish I could print the stuff that administrators tell me off the record.

A visit from the Rouge
The Rouge, aka The Thief, aka Anime Mike visited me this weekend. Friday we ate at Macaroni Grill and played Laser Tag with the Tina, aka ChemicalPink. It was one of those "Hey, I know you through Xanga so we should meet sometime" things. She knows me through a mutual friend. Mike had his usual pizza while I ordered the limited special, a red vodka chicken pasta that was amazingly good. I proceeded to suck it up at Laser Tag.

We played at a PTQ in Oklahoma City. I started off 3-0 before the better decks took me down to 3-3. I played three of my rares but still lost. Three Dreams was amazing (I had Pollenbright Wings, Faith's Fetters, Galvanic Arc, and the red and white mage marks), but Razia and Living Inferno are just too top heavy for a format that emphasizes your mana curve.

I finished 21st but they still gave some prize support. I got a tournament pack and 3 boosters of Ravnica, 1 booster of Guildpact, and 2 boosters of Ninth Edition. The Rouge and I mano-a-mano drafted the six boosters, and then I preceded to ridiculously own him for fifteen straight games. It's not like my deck was that much better than his, but he literally did not miss a land drop for first seven games. Then I drew ridiculous draws like double Disembowel and Dark Banishing or he'd get me down to two or three and then proceed the draw lands for five turns in a row.

Murphy's Law
On Sunday, I started doing layout at 2pm. I finished at 4...am. Yep, I spent about 14 straight hours working on layout. A lot of that was a server crash, and another problem was the lack of ads. I had to come up with an article out of my butt to fill the extra space I wasn't expecting to fill. I think I may be getting physically sick because of it. :(

Egg Drop Soup
Yesterday I made egg drop soup for my "family" group last night (a BSU Bible study group). Little did they know that it was my first time that I had ever made egg drop soup. Fortunately, it turned out well. :)

Verse of the Day
"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."
~1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Convos of the Day

Rouge: People who drink are idiots.
D2: Well, I think that people who drink to get drunk are idiots.
Rouge: No, people who drink are idiots.
D2: I believe Tina may have a different opinion.
Tina: Yeah. Everybody becomes friendlier when they drink.

Rouge: Why do I do Sealed when I know I have such horrible luck?
D2: Maybe you should shuffle better or something.
Rouge: I SHUFFLE THE SAME WAY SINCE JUNIOR HIGH!
D2: That may be your problem.

Jim: So, why do you want to be a Magic judge?
Rouge: I enjoy explaining weird rules situation to others.
D2: I want to be a teacher later in life, and I just enjoy teaching others.
Jim: Good, but there's one thing you implied but never said. I think you two have the right idea, but if you really want to be judge then you want to not only teach the game but also spread the game itself.

D2: I have to go make an appearance at a wine and cheese thing. I'll be back in half an hour or so. I've already made the assumption.
Rouge: You assume correctly.

D2: Don't you ever want to do more with your life than just play games all day long?
Rouge: Not really. I enjoy playing games all day long.
D2: Yes, but life isn't always doing about what you want to do.
Rouge: I beg to differ. I will do what I want to do.
D2: Look, mon ami, you eventually have to get a job at some point.
Rouge: There isn't a job that I like doing.
D2: Well, you already messed up your first two chances by failing to go to classes when your parents were paying for school.
Rouge: It's because I get bored. There's nothing that really interests me.
D2: Don't you want to go into creative writing?
Rouge: Eventually.
D2: Sigh. But what about a girl? Even I get lonely for female companionship.
Rouge: I can shut off that biological desire.
D2: I guess you are not a normal person then.
Rouge: You are correct, sir. I am an extraordinary person.

Link of the Day
Rest in peace, Dennis Weaver. It's not like I ever watched him, but he was a major guy on Gunsmoke, so I have to give him his props.

Sports Report
The ending to the OU-OSU basketball game was crazy. OU has now won four straight one point games. That's just silly.

Constitution battle
It's going to be a long student senate meeting tonight, as the new constitution will be up. Senate, being Senate, will want to run through it page by page. My presence is required to represent Judicial Council. Groan.

National Pancakes Day
IHOP's having free pancakes today to honor the occasion. That's just cool.

Random question
How do you like your pancakes?

I prefer fruit toppings with little or no sugar added on my pancakes. You pretty much can't get them that way anyplace but at home. Usually any fruit toppings are mostly fruit syrup.

If I'm having them with butter and syrup, I prefer the butter to be melted before putting it on.

In any case, I seldom eat them. In restaurants I will often ask to substitute hash browns or eggs or melon.

My favorite pancakes are Swedish pancakes... which are flatter, more dense, and sweeter than typical pancakes... served with butter and loganberry or marionberry jam. Mmmmm.

You consistently call Anime Mike the 'Rouge'. 'Rouge' is french for 'red', and incidentally also the word for that make-up stuff women use to make their cheeks look like they're slightly blushing.
'Rogue', on the other hand, is the word for 'vagabond, rascal, scoundrel, fun-loving mischievous person'.

Either blueberry pancakes, but not too many blueberries. Or else whole-wheat pancakes with bananas and nuts on top (that's what I get when I go to IHOP or VI)!

Your friend the Rouge and I sound like we have a lot in common. That last convo of the day echoed a hundred conversations I have had with my friend.
