In my student senate, we have the unofficial position of Senate storyteller. Last year, we had a Muslim student tell us some pretty cool stories. This year, I became the Senate storyteller. Currently, I'm boring people with Aesop's fables.

To alleviate the boredom of Aesop, I asked my fellow senators for stories they would like to me to tell. One of my financial appropriations committee members, a graduate English student, gave me an excellent poem by one of her favorite authors. I will tell it in Senate in the near future because it fits my nickame of "most bitter senator".

"In the Desert"
Stephen Crane

In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said: "Is it good, friend?"
"It is bitter - bitter," he answered;
"But I like it
Because it is bitter,
And because it is my heart."
