Ego boosting for
tu_nenay_08
Jan. 16th, 2005 12:16 amI'm going to do the ego boosting on a first come, first save basis. The first person to respond was
tu_nenay_08, aka Sweetypie18 on xanga (she had a slight advantage due to the fact that LJ was down for a day).
Let's start with first impressions. Oh yes, we actually met over AIM and xanga the past summer. My mysterious suitemate,
wldntulk2knwwho, knew this girl who was entering Tulsa as a freshman. You were her roommate. That should have been the end of the story.
Except it wasn't. Then one summer day my mysterious suitemate sends me an instant messenge to tell me that he has a girlfriend now. Who was it? He told me. I had only one response.
What?!?
I believe I then went on some bitter tirade about how silly it was to get involved in a relationship with a pre freshman before school even started, but then my mysterious suitemate firmly stated his strong like for this Courtney girl. Okay, now I'm intrigued. I want to meet this girl, there must be something about her.
I'll be honest. I didn't see what Phil saw the first time I met you in person, whenever that was.
But over time, I've gotten to you better and who you are. You are from Oklahoma City, a graduate of Carl Albert High School. But you've lived in a few other places, like Hope, Arkansas (and don't we all know the signficance of that place). You have a sort of Scottish or Irish heritage, I believe. You are a vocal performance major who desires to be an elementary schoolteacher for some strange reason. You attend a Presbyterian church. You have a strong attachment to your family and friends. You will be part of the Kappa Delta sorority in the near future. You've become an anime fan. You humor me by calling me sensei, grasshopper.
But I believe you are more interested in why I think what I do about you. First, let me address what I do think about you. You are a kind and compassionate person. You're great and fun to be around. Although, speaking as a pessimist, you do have one great fear.
Why do I think this? It is from my personal observations. You gave me a Christmas gift (John Steinbeck's The Moon is Down), expecting nothing in return. You do all sorts of little things like that. Deep down, that's who you are.
You seem to think there's something wrong with you if your friends don't understand you. That's not a big deal, we all feel like that sometimes. It hurts when people don't seem to understand who we are, but part of that is communicating our fears.
I've noticed that you've gotten better at that. Communication. Before, all you would write about in your blogs were the day-to-day activities in your lives and so many song lyrics. Jumbled writing and all that. Now it's become a lot more focused.
You make me laugh, which is a rather rare occurence. Like yesterday, when we were eating dinner at the Vietnamese restaurant with your mysterious boyfriend and my internet guru suitemate, you made a ratherbold hilarious statement. You said your goal was to one day say something so profound that I would be held speechless for ten seconds. Ironically, your fortune cookie was "To seek to outsmart everyone is the greatest folly of all". Priceless.
As someone who has read The Alchemist, you'll appreciate the fact that you are getting closer to achieving your Personal Legend. Take it from one who can see these things with eyes wide open and a crystal clear mind.
One last thing. You only have a year and a half to complete your goal. The clock is ticking...
