*D2 sighs. It is a sigh of relief, sadness, and exhilaration all rolled into one*

It wasn't too bad, it just took some time to explain things. Parents tend to prefer safer bets like engineering over history. But in the end they agreed that it was best for me to choose to do what I wanted to do.

You can't always go where your parents want you to go, D. Here is a little story:

I went to school with an extremely bright guy. He was ranked in the top 50 academically in the US by USA Today during his senior year. His parents (also southeast Asian descent) owned a manufacturing business, wanted him to be an engineer. He wanted to do pre-med, aiming at psychiatry. Much fighting erupted, he left the house for a while, etc. After looking at your debate, I Googled him. And here you go (http://www.dbbs.wustl.edu/DBBS/website.nsf/rib/pengs). Much can be accomplished when you do what you love.
