So you want to write a book, now do you?

For my honors colloquium class, I had to present three possible projects that I wanted to do. They had to go through the "lilt-o-meter" test. Everyone in the class would listen for the lilt in my voice to see which project I should do.
I started getting excited about collecting stories about the journeys of refugees from the Vietnam War. From the time period between 1975-1982, you have a wave of political refugees streaming from Vietnam (including my parents). While there have been some books done on these journeys, I don't believe they've been cast in the light of a second-generation guy like me. And you know, it hit me then.
I really feel excited about this.
Yes, I want to try to publish a book for my honors project. I don't know exactly the format or the title, but I do know that I want to try this. Furthermore, I should drop my engineering degree to focus on this. At one time, I was an engineer with an interest in history. Now I'm a historian with a foot in engineering.
I've heard that it's difficult to maintain the pace needed to write a book, and my difficulties will be compounded by the language thing. But my plan is to do the bulk of the raw writing in the summer, and do the editing over next fall. By December, I want to have things ready for submission.
