Oh boy, allocations season is almost upon me. Well, I'm the senior chair for the financial appropriations committee of my student senate, which means I'm ultimately responsible for my committee. And without a doubt my committee's most important job is to handle doling out money to all of the organizations on campus. Fortunately, we have two chairs this year, and my junior chair is officially in charge of the process. In the meantime I handle conference travel bills and new organizations.
But I still have to make sure things get done on time.
This is the first year we are trying an electronic allocation process, using the features of Excel. This year is going to be a trial by fire.
Even though I despise parliamentary procedure, I serve as parliamentarian for my student senate. It's rather ironic because there are several other senators whose parli pro knowledge dwarfs mine. Although, I call an order to make some confirmations a roll call vote.
We had to move into committee of the whole Tuesday night, which meant our president pro tempore would then preside over the meeting for the vice president. Except that our president pro tempore happened to be absent. That responsiblity fell on the next ranking senator...who was me.
You'd think by watching the President of Senate do the same things over and over you could do it, but it's much much harder than it looks.
University Relations emailed me today. Apparently, they want to put a picture of me and a short bio in their brochures. Yes, I could be one of those random students who say "I like Tulsa. This is why you should come to TU". I went ahead and said I would do the interview.
