Others cheer the death of Rehnquist.

I mean, some people look forward to Bush getting a second nomination plus the Chief Justice position. And they'll look forward to Bush tabbing Clarence Thomas to replace Rehnquist.

He'll certainly want to, but I doubt he can pull it off. I mean at the moment he's a wounded animal. He's got no "political capital" left and the dogs can smell him. It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of the republicans desert him in order to stay safe in '06 and '08. And the timing is terrible, He'd rather had that Rehnquist kicked the bucket after judge thomas was confirmed.

Problem is...

We're two Supreme Court vacancies and Bush is President.

Appointing SCOTUS Justices is reserved for Dear Leader Hillary by Divine Right -- at least in the minds of enough Senators to block an appointment.

I'd like to agree with you, but they say anything's possible.

Anything.

But an animal backed down into a corner is more dangerous. So it seems with Bush...everytime the Democrats think they have him cornered he manages to fight it out. Bush doesn't have Clinton's style, though.

Interesting. However, I don't think the Democrats can drag it out for three years.

If I may ask, anonymous person, do I happen to know you in person or are you simply a wanderer by?

But everytime he's limping more while the dems seems ever more eager to fight. But yeah bush is a bruiser, a political streetfighter he could still pull it off. But it never seemed tougher for him to do so.

The difference between Clinton and Bush was that Clinton usually knew to pick his fights, while Bush just can't back off one.

Surprisingly, the fact that Bush is so uncompromising makes him even more palatable to his support base.
