Folks, there's a difference between coke and Coke. Ya ain't a good Southerner if ya don't understand that.

Have you ever seen a fantasy football division where the division pts leader and the division pts bottom feeder can both win the division or be eliminated from the playoffs? It happened in the other division in my league. A very, very unusual statistical anomaly.

The Magic Comprehensive Rules are aptly named. For example:

"A two player game is a game between two people."

No. Freaking. Duh.

I may be going to Memphis for a Magic Pro Tour Qualifier this weekend. Anime Mike and lucky Andy want me to get out of the house. I suppose I'll have to work on goldfishing Desire a little more.

Memphis, eh? That's just down the road from me - good luck in the game. Used to play a lot of Magic myself back when the game first came out. Haven't played in a while now though.

My father is from Tennessee, and my grandmother is of the firm belief that a coke will heal all wounds. Stomach ache? Have a coke. Flu? Have a coke. Bullet wound? Coke. Cancer? A coke. Guess what brand I was raised drinking? ;)

I drink diet coke with lime, but I only have one a day, two if I REALLY need a kick. I'm very sensative to caffiene.

What's your favorite brand of coke?

A&W Cream Soda, but it's hard to find that at most restaurants. Most places just carry your basic cokes, and I don't drink them because of the caffeine. I have bad reactions to caffeine.

I am also from the South (actually transplanted to the South at a young age, so I'm not really a Southerner), and we use coke as a generic all the time. "Ya'll want coke?" "Sure!" "What kind?" is standard when we go out to eat.

Wow, I don't remember the last time I saw A&W Cream Soda. Probably Wal Mart.

Even a transplanted Southern belle knows to call coke "coke". ;)

Also, in Oklahoma (which is the only South I visit), I have only heard it called a pop.

That's because Oklahoma only pretends to be a Southern State. Remember, Oklahoma wasn't a state until after 1900. So during the Civil War it was a territory, for reasons I think you already know. You can't be a Southern State unless you sided with the South during the Civil War.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Not Coke... There are soooooo many options for a carbonated beverage! Coke doesn't hold complete dominance...

I understand that a tissue is a Kleenex.
I understand that a cotton swab on a stick is a Q-tip.
I understand that a copy of something can be a Xerox.
I understand that a small men's bathing suit (eww) is a Speedo.
And even now... some people refer to online searching as "Googling" it.

But lo, the world is full of brands that are not Coke! Personally, I jump between pop and soda (girlfriend is from St. Louis, where it is soda, and I am from OK, where it is pop). Having been a camp counselor in PA the last two summers, there were 36 staffers there representing over a dozen states (and some countries too!) and the heated debate between pop and soda raged on. Then the girl from Arkansas said it was 'Coke.' This is what unified the pop and soda sides... our disagreement of it being Coke.

So yes, in conclusion, I have a 15 page paper to start writing that is due next Monday. I am just beginning to prattle!
