Still in the Christmas spirit?
In a whopping rout, eighty five percent of the voters in my first ever Fun Friday Five Poll said they would rather buy a gift than receive a gift. I was one of the few who would rather receive a gift than buy a gift. I'm just not good at buying things for others, plus I'm a greedy guy. At least I'm honest enough to admit it. Now, if you are true to your word leaders, there are some gifts you can still buy me (and I'm being totally serious here). Just because it's after Christmas does not mean we Americans can slack in our duty to sustain our system of capitalism. Contact me on my gmail account in my user info if you have twenty bucks to spare on a random poor college boy who feels no shame in begging. By now you've bought all the required Christmas presents and perhaps a Christmas bonus is cooking in. Humor me. Pretty please with sugar on top?

1. 8-bit Theater's Jesus Saves T-shirt. If there's anything I want on this list, it's this shirt because it defines who I am.
2. PurePwnage's i pwn noobs T-shirt. This shirt will let other people know how leet I am.
3. PurePwnage's HEAD SHOT! T-shirt. I would wear this in public just to see people's reactions.
4. MegaTokyo's MegaTokyo Logo Polo Shirt. In format settings, people would be curious what MegaTokyo is.
5. Penny Arcade's RPG Menu T-shirt. Perfect for any RPG gamer, but especially for fans of Final Fantasy.
6. Penny Arcade's Zelda Life Heart T-shirt. Because we all have life bars.
7. PVP Online's Han Shot First T-shirt. You are a mere casual Star Wars fan if you don't know what this shirt is talking about.
8. Right Stuf's NERV Logo T-shirt. You are not an anime fan if you don't know what that shirt is referencing.
9. Right Stuf's Ai Mode T-shirt. It looks lovely.
10. Right Stuf's Japanese Emergency Exit T-shirt. Admit it, seeing that guy run with Japanese letters is hilarious.
11. Right Stuf's Harakiri T-shirt. LOL.
12. Right Stuf's I wish I were Japanese (in Japanese letters) T-shirt. Don't we all?
13. Right Stuf's Japanese Respect the Emperor T-shirt. I am the emperor. Respect me.
14. Right Stuf's Blue Captain Tylor T-shirt. Cause he's an irresponsible leader.
15. Despair.com's :-( the Frownie Shirt. Perfect.

By the way, my T-shirt size is L.

Welcome
Welcome new friend [livejournal.com profile] yndy!

Administration
I've added two new rules:
Tell me who you are. Because I actually care, really I do. The only comments I screen are anonymous ones. For those of you who don't know how screening works, this means that if you want to tell me something privately than you just post anonymously, but please tell me who you are in the comment. I do not want faceless people on my LJ, but I understand the need for it. It allows random friends to comment from time to time without registering a LJ and for private messages. I don't log IPs because I frankly don't care. I'd be like Ferrett-sensei and just allow wanton anonymous posting but I actually have this morbid curiosity that loves to know who I am talking to.

Follow my orders. I am the benevolent dictator of my LJ. No if's, and's, or but's about it. When I decree something on my LJ, it becomes law at that very instant. Of course, I can't control what you do on your own LJ but on mine I have the God given right to do what I want. This includes defriending you or simply deleting your comments until you follow the rules. Consider yourself properly warned.

Paid account project
I've got 35 up, 65 to go. [livejournal.com profile] renough will eventually get 15 more of them, but that still leaves my fifty short. I know one hundred user icons is a lot, but I must USE THEM ALL!!!

Quote of the Day

A Christmas tree. Noticed the stuffed penguins hanging out? I won those in a claw machine. Yes, you can win at those infernal claw machines. Also you can see the "Love Story" sheet music on the background. I've been working on memorizing it.

It's D2 in a Santa's jester cap! Notice that the mirror reverses the "Daniel" on his T-shirt (man I'm so narcissistic that I'd even wear a T-shirt with my own name on it).

On opening presents
My family opens presents on the night of Christmas Eve. We usually do this around nine o'clock. The theory is that it gives us time to enjoy some of our gifts and then we can spend all day Christmas Day enjoying them. I heartily agree with this family tradition.

So when do you guys open presents?

No, no capitalism for me!

It's not that I'm un-American, you understand. Am just poor.

You're only halfway through your icon project? I was sure you'd gotten more icons than that by now. Did you really count all those up correctly?

So when do you guys open presents?

This year, I'm opening 'em when I get 'em, partly because some gifts have been money and I need to pay bills as much as possible. Usually, though, our family opens presents whenever we can get together for the Christmas celebration. Most years, that turns out to be a week or two before Christmas, since some of the relatives have other obligations on December 25. Bronchitis kept me from this year's gathering, so I don't even know if I'll ever get any presents from the relatives.

I did have more icons, but I scrapped them due to overlapping with other icons. The icon project continues, I am afraid.

I'm praying for ya, man.

Generally, we open presents on Christmas Day, in the morning. My family was always very strict about the 'No presents 'till Christmas Day' rule. Sam's family was less strict in that regard, but he's decided that he likes the anticipation more.

This year, we're probably not going to open most of our presents 'till the evening on Christmas Day when we go to have dinner with my father and his girlfriend. That's because it's not very christmasy here right now, what with there being no decorations and boxes everywhere.

I see. But I love waking up every Christmas morning to enjoy my presents all day long. :)

The difference, I guess, is whether you wake up Christmas morning and open presents or open presents and then go to sleep. I love the anticipation of falling asleep, wondering what there is waiting for me. I still have the whole day to enjoy presents, minus the half hour at the most that it took to open them.

I'm not really as "into" presents as I used to be. Mostly, I get books. I got mostly reference books for my birthday :P (Writing books that every writer should have but I hadn't yet aquired.) This year, I got a bunch of expensive face soap from Sam, which believe it or not is thrilling to me, and an umbrella from my mother. I don't know what I'm gonna get from my father yet, but I'm betting on more books.

Usually on Christmas morning. It's always varied, since my parents always switched their schedules around, so each year they'd usually milk the cows at different times. Sometimes they'd be done and in the house by eight, so we'd open early, and sometimes we'd wait until ten or eleven. We were allowed to go through our stockings, but the living-room was off-limits until the cows were milked. Last year, though, we opened presents around 2 am, because everyone was awake. That was an interesting time. Now, what with the cows gone, it's whenever everyone is awake. But we hardly bought anything this year, so it's not going to be a big deal anyway.

And yes, the near-dozen stuffed animals in my room, all won this year, are testament to the fact that those infernal machines can be beat. If I had a digital camera, I'd take a picture. Alas, no. Someday I'll make it over to [livejournal.com profile] exrandu's house, three miles away...

Three miles away isn't that long of a drive, Jacob-chan.

I know. I was simply noting that despite the short distance between us, I still haven't bothered to satisfy the mob and do a photo shoot.

Thanks for the welcome.

Love the tree!

To answer the query: we open presents on Christmas Day - the exception being a family tradition - 1 present is opened on Christmas Eve by everyone there - it seems to always end up being something sleep-wear oriented (jammies, robes, slippers, nightgowns, what-have-you) myseteriously enough!
We just finished that here, actually.

Merry Christmas!

The penguins rule. I've gotten no less than three pairs of penguin socks for Christmas.

I am a lucky girl.

Merry Christmas, D.
