Administration
I've already had to delete one unruly post trying to usurp my authority on my LJ. Note to any aspiring revolutionists: I am a benevolent dictator, but I will not hesitate to use extreme force to quell a rebellion.

When someone gets engaged
You congratulate the groom (for landing a nice catch) and send your best wishes to the bride (because she needs a lot of luck).

Funny voicemail messages
[livejournal.com profile] zarhooie has a very funny voice message.

Senior Project
Okay, I'm actually going to do the reboot. Hopefully, it works out this time.

The difference between accuracy and precision
An accurate gun always hits the right target. A precise gun consistently hits the same spot, but not necessarily the right target. (Thank you AP Chemistry)

Convos of the Day
G: I find it ironic that conservatives are pro-life and for the death peanlty but liberals are pro-choice and anti-death penalty.
D2: I don't find that strange at all.
G: How do you figure that?
D2: Think about it. Conservatives try to preserve society. So they are willing to take a chance on an undetermined life, and in the same vein they are willing to eliminate members of society who threaten its well being. Liberals try to revolutionize society. So they are willing to eliminate the undetermined and hold on to what they can change or rehabilitate, as is the case with murderers.
G: That's very counterintuitive.

Quote of the Day
"LJ shouldn't be a transcription service. Writing is an art, not a tape recording."
~[livejournal.com profile] zoethe, in reference to this experimental writing of mine

Link of the Day
2005 just got one second longer.

Sports Report
It's official: Lebron James is sick. The Cleveland Cavaliers can make it the Eastern Conference Finals if they can topple Miami or Detroit in the semis.

DeAngelo Williams of Memphis should be a top 5 draft pick next year.

Suggestions poll
Today I recorded the first ever Story of the Week (it's mp3 format, natch).

What do you think of the story?

I agree with the second part. However, different people use LJ for different purposes. If you want a public record of a nice long conversation, there's nothing inherently wrong with typing it up and posting it to LJ--as long as you don't expect anyone else in the world to read it. :-) Since you appear to want to keep your audience, then her advice is very good advice to follow. And it's a darn good quote of the day, too.

Yeah, I'd prefer to keep my audience. But I also tend to try out new things. Evolution has dead ends, and as my writing evolves it will try out new things that will die a quick, quick death.

And wrong. Conservatives adhere to the idea that society needs rules. They believe in "law" - that the state should tell people how to behave, for the good of all. Liberals believe that society needs to protect individual rights - that the state exists to protect liberty, for the good of all.

The pro-life/pro-choice debate is not about the value of the fetus' life. It's about when the state's interest in a fetus overrides the woman's interest in deciding when she should have a child. Most pro-life people I know are pro-life because they believe a fetus, regardless of age, is a human life.

The death penalty debate is whether individual rights are forfeited, not about whether murderers can be rehabilitated. Most anti-death penalty people I know are not remotely suggesting that rehabilitated people should be released.

Hmmm, yeah my definitions don't jive with mainstream definitions.

Nah, chief, I just caught you setting up a strawman.

Strawmen are easier to set fire to.

I don't favor abortion, but I am pro-choice. But I don't really have an opinion on the death penalty yet. So I can't say "Ha! You're wrong!" Bummer.

And I wasn't being unruly in that post. I was just going to start a chant akin to the "WE WANT PICS! WE WANT PICS! WE WANT PICS!" mantra you seem so fond of.

It's one thing to chant in one's personal LJ. Jacob-chan, it's another to chant for pics of the person for which the community exists in the first place.
