A continuation of this post.

1) What sparked your interest in playing "Where Do I Begin?" from "Love Story"?
My sister always played that song when she sat down to the piano, so it's a song that's ingrained into my mind. I wish I could play it like she plays it. Or did you mean to ask if there was a specific person at art and coffee? Sure...let's just call it foreshadowing for you. ;)

2) What do you enjoy about FNL at Wesley?
Well, I enjoy the food a lot. Also, I like general atmosphere and hearing some thoughtful words at the end of my week.

3) Kitties or puppies?
You know, my dad never liked cats or dogs so I never had a kitten or puppy in my house. I guess if I had to choose one I'd choose a puppy since they're cuter.

4) What are some bands that you like?
I don't listen to anyone in particular. 95 percent of the songs I own are anime, video game or movie soundtracks.

5) What do you want the most out of life?
Happiness.

1. What do you feel when you see the difference in education and parental expectations between you and your friends with non-Asian parents?
It's a bag of mixed emotions. On one hand I wish I had been given more latitude to explore myself, but on the other hand I've had unparalleled support when I finally do choose what I want to do.

2. How much do you spend on Magic cards? Would you need to spend more to remain competitive, or could you spend less and retain your edge, if you so chose?
Hmmm, I probably spend an average of $50-100 a month, but I also sell cards to help offset that. If I wanted to be more competitive, the first thing to do would be to spend more time actually playing magic, which is a slight problem due to school. One of the main reasons why I decided to go judge more often is that I just don't have the time to playtest enough.

3. What's the best console game EVAR!?
Super Mario Brothers 3 for the NES. It's got high replay value, and surprisingly complex nuances in its simple game play. It's an all around fun game with the most iconic video game character of all time.

4. If you were to visit Vietnam (I can't recall you ever writing about such an event, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened), would you feel any kinship with the people there?
I have not visited Vietnam, but if I did visit I think I would feel the kinship of having the some motherland. However, I suspect I would feel more of a stranger at home because of the language thing and the fact that I would stick out as an abnormally tall Asian.

5. Your parents are buddhist, not christian. According to christian dogma, that would mean they would go to hell and not to heaven. How does that make you feel?
It does make me feel a bit awkward, but I believe that the good Lord put us where we are for a specific reason and all we can do is our best to fulfill his will. That doesn't mean that we'll get everything we ask for, though.

So you sell between 30 and 80 dollars worth of cards per month. Do you concentrate on a few colors (and thus sell off the remainder of your cards), or do you pick and choose which ones to retain and which ones to keep?
Do you sell back to the store where you buy your cards, or do you sell via a different channel? Do you buy boosters and decks, or do you buy singles as well?

I usually ask my friends if they need a card and if the answer is no then I sell it. Typically random people are willing to buy cards, but I will sell back to the store if need be. Ebay is another good place to sell rare cards like promos (my friend sold a rare promo for 85 bucks for me, which is higher than usual but a case in point that there's always someone looking to buy cards to collect). I buy singles for tournament decks, as I get compensated a box of boosters for judging at a prerelease.

I can see how that would work, yes. Do you have a single deck that you tweak as you go, or do you have different decks? On what basis do you decide which deck to play with?
I tend to gravitate toward combo decks for tournament play because I'm usually better at asking questions than answering them. Then again, I don't play a whole lot anymore so I usually play whatever deck my friends tell me to play, and I'd say they're right 90% of the time.

The reasoning being: "I need this card now, but I don't need a whole series -- because I could get those in the boosters I get for judging"?

I haven't played Magic since '92, and I have never been part of the Magic scene, so I have no idea what a 'combo deck' is. A dual-colored deck?

Yeah, basically there will be several rares that need to be bought to complete decks, and on short notice they'll have to be bought.

Well, in classic Magic theory there are three basic types of deck. Aggro decks play a bunch of creatures and attack for the win. Control decks are run a bunch of countermagic and/or creature kill, usually winning with one superior creature. Combo decks usually have two or three combination of cards that "goes off", which means when you play then in sequence it makes a chain reaction or combo that finishes off your opponent there and then.

I prefer to play combo because you literally ignore your opponent most of the time, sort of like playing solitaire. However, combos are usually fairly easy to disrupt so it requires a lot of playing to know when to set up the combo and go for the win. It's a little more complicated than that but that's the jist.
