Spiritual Quest, Part II
May. 3rd, 2007 09:21 pmThis Sunday I drove to church by myself as Stevo's cell phone went kaput. I forgot exactly where First Baptist Church is downtown so I parked near the First Presbyterian Church and meandered my way towards FBC. Kind of refreshing to take the long walk, actually.
Live in the Word
“The fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law" -Galatians 5:22-23
The first Scripture that Da Noise and I memorized was one that we learned a long, long time ago in Sunday School. The verse basically says the things you see that should bear fruit in a disciple of Christ. That is to say, you don't obtain love, joy, peace, etc. in order to become a disciple. Nope, it is because you are a disciple that you possess those things.
"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body." -1 Corinthians 6:19-20
The second Scripture that Da Noise and I memorized involves one that is often used in the Southern Baptist Church to decry drinking, drugs, tattoos, and other such defilement of one's body. At least that's how it's often interpreted.
Pray In Faith
The useful thing about a prayer blog is the fact that you can use tags. I've kept a prayer journal before and it can get tedious to keep track of which prayers have been answered. Not with a blog. Now you just keep a "prayer list" tag, an "answer" tag, a "praise" tag, and so on and you've got all your ducks lined up in a row. I know the Prayer Warrior thinks it's amazing!
Fellowship with Believers
The Fort Smith BCM invited me out to go get some ice cream and bowling with them. Not wanting to feel alone, I called up Stevo and he agreed to go with me. The beautiful thing about joining a new group is that no one quite knows who you are. They weren't ready for my Fred-Flinstones style twinkletoes bowling. They laughed at first, but before long they realized I was actually doing better than them!
Stevo helped add to our mystique by bowling 40 points better than his previous high, as he managed to get a 208! Hehehe, it helped that I won a Sleepy Dwarf in the claw machine, too. Random talents do come in handy every once in awhile.
Review of Sunday’s Service
Deuteronomy 6:5 says "Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength."
This is going to sound cliche, but I believe the message was speaking to me this week. The pastor was talking about how you should either serve the good Lord with zeal or not serve him at all. After all, ten percent of the church does nintey percent of the work.
I realized that if the good Lord is going to allow me to teach history, I might as well serve with him the best I can. Right now, I'm not able to serve to the full extent of my boundless capacity. But one day I will, I see that.
Today I am agnostic. The good Lord tells me that I will be able to say with complete confidence that I am a Christian one day.
Who am I to argue?
