How did you come to start your LJ?
When I was playing a lot of Magic: The Gathering, [ profile] theferrett linked to one of his essays, whereupon I discovered his LJ. I joined to comment.

How did you find your first friends?
I had some real life friends I wanted to keep track of, and some people added me after seeing my comments. Also [ profile] theferrett had a friending frenzy one time which pushed me over twenty friends.

Are those first friends still on your FL?
Nope, I managed to scare some of them away.

How long have you been on LJ?
Since July of 2004.

Do you have more friends or communities on your FL?
Friends, I don't actively seek out too many communities.

Do you do a lot of friends cuts?
I usually don't cut on my own, but I will cut if cut most of the time. Journals change over time so it happens.

What do you like in an LJ friend?
People who write well and use good grammar. People who have a passion for what they write. Also, people who comment on my entries. :)

What do you dislike?
If I dislike them I'll cut them.

What would make you un-friend someone immediately?
Ummm...I guess making a personal threat to me or something...

Have you been caught up in a lot of LJ drama?
Not really. Don't get involved in battles you don't have to.

Do RL friends and family members know you have a journal on LJ?
Yes, and I keep this mind in everything I write.

Do you also have Facebook and if so, what do you prefer – LJ or FB?
I use Facebook as a social networking tool, LJ is more of my reading list. They both have strengths and weaknesses that depend on the situation.

What about Twitter?
Trying my best to avoid another addiction.

Do you blog on any other sites?
Used to keep up with Xanga but most of my peeps there have moved on to Facebook.

How often do you check in on LJ?
Two or three times a day.

What do you rarely or never post about?
You won't find too many mentions of the sordid details of my life.

Have you ever thought about deleting your journal?
I'm actually thinking about that now when I officially become a teacher. I suppose I'll have friends-lock all of my past entries at that point.

Have you ever changed your username?

Why did you choose your current username?
GreyBeta was the name I used playing StarCraft on Grey is my favorite color and I think of Beta like "beta testing", as in I'm always fixing bad code in my internal systems. Alternatively, I'm more of a number two than a number one, so I'm a Beta and not an Alpha.

If you’re looking for new friends, how do you find them?
Typically, I'll see an interesting post linked by one of my current friends and I'll add a new friend for awhile to check it out.

Are you taking new people on to your Friends List just now?

Finally, tell us the reasons why you keep an online journal.
LJ's communities do a good job of aggregating newsposts and webcomics in a readily commentable format. I can keep track of digital and analog friends. Every once in awhile, I write an inspired post.
