Mar. 31st, 2009 06:19 am1. What is your favorite piano piece to play?
My piano skills have deteriorated due to lack of practice, but I can still play a decent version of "Where Do I Begin", the theme from Love Story.
2. You've said elsewhere that you keep in mind that your friends/family could/do read your LJ. Have you posted anything that worried you to post, but did it anyway? Why?
I once posted a story of how my mom only had a dime in her purse when my one and only sibling, my older sister, was born. My sister emailed me to say that was a bit too personal to be posting freely on the Internet, but I said I didn't mind. However, I now hardly ever post about my family to err on the side of caution.
3. What was your favorite TV show as a kid?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I loved dressing up as a Ninja Turtle for Halloween. Of course, the nerdy Donatello was my favorite character. I also know the works of a few Renaissance artists thanks to this series!
4. Do you do more computer gaming or RPing? Which would you prefer to do more of?
I guess computer gaming, but I actually do more console gaming nowadays then anything else. I used to play a lot of WarCraft II and StarCraft in high school. I'd RP more but I usually work on weekends, and finding a good group that I'm comfortable with is difficult for an anti-social person like me.
5. What's your favorite obscure TV show?
Legend of the Galactic Heroes, aka Ginga Eiyū Densetsu. It's a 110 episode series based on a series of science fiction series by Yoshiki Tanaka. The story details the closing years of a long war between the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance. Each side has a rising star, Reinhardt von Lohengramm for the Empire and Yang Wen-Li for the Alliance. The characterization of the main characters is deep and even supporting characters get quite a bit of exposition. It's the kind of series you will pick up on things the third or fourth time through.
It's probably too talky to become very popular, but all those conversations establish an astute comparison of autocracy vs. democracy. The space battles are epic and often taken from real historical battles. What I love about this series is that it has two episodes of what I call "History Channel episodes". Between major arcs, a History Channel episode details how mankind left the earth and the politics of those governing mankind. The tone of these episodes is exactly how a historian would do it, which is due to the fact that Tanaka studied history before becoming a writer.
