Of course I've owned Nike shoes--they're seemingly the only brand of athletic shoe that makes shoes that almost fit my foot shape.
For a long time, my idea of Hell has involved shoe shopping. And I need a new pair of running/walking/athletic-type shoe before the current pair of Nikes wear out enough to let the broken glass in. ::sigh::
Hm, I wouldn't call it a "favorite" story, but its one I value. Back in High School I spent the summer out at my dads place in the middle of no-where. I had the job of mowing the lawn while i was there. Well I had to mow the ditch in front of the house also, probably 4' deep or so on the side of a county road. Well I was out there mowing it, and instead of taking long cuts across the slope, I was standing at the top/middle of the slope and letting the mower down into the bottom of the ditch to cut it.
In those days I stomped around in a pair of those leather topsiders/deckshoes that were popular. They didn't fit well without socks on, so I'd turned the tounge down so they fit a little better.
well, as I was standing on freshly cut grass (which is a little wet), and on a slope, I slipped. My foot went under the running lawnmower, and my foot was hit by the blade.
Blood, my screaming, running around etc. An ambulance ride and ER visit later.. I was checking out the shoe I'd been wearing at the time. The first cut of the blade is the one that went through the end of my big toe. You could see clearly where the end of the shoe had been cleaved off.
What was interesting was, you could also see where the blade had swung through again, neatly shearing off the top of the shoe and leaving a cut groove across the underside of the shoe-tounge that I had folded down for a better fit. I'm pretty sure if I HADN'T had that extra layer of leather between my foot and the blade, I'd have a nice groove across the top of my foot and a lot more damage to the nerves/tendons of my foot. And probably a hell of a limp.
As it is now, I walk normally, and aside from a Franken-toenail thats grown in the place of the one that was knocked clean off by the blade and a scar, I'm get around just fine.
ya, I remember the doc telling me they have a couple injuries like mine every year.
A couple years later I did my good deed for the day by telling that story to a guy mowing a ditch at the local military base who was wearing high-top basketball sneakers. He went and switched to his military issue boots right after that.
The only shoes I have that I tie are my (nike) running shoes. So I put that I don't tie them. The vast majority of the time, I wear my teva flip flops.
Since I am a woman with men's size 13 feet (roughly 15 in women's, except that size doesn't exist for women), dress shoes are ridiculously difficult for me to find. Even normal shoes are relatively hard, but trying to find dress shoes is like trying to find hen's teeth or mouse eggs. XP I hate it and wish I had normal sized feet. I am the only woman with these size feet that I have ever met. Even other very large women rarely have any size above 11.

But I never mow a yard without good shoes on.
