The suggestion of Gonzalez to replace Ashcroft reminded me something that I heard from my genius history advisor, Dr. Rahe.

Whenever Rehnquist steps down from being Chief Justice, Bush will move to appoint Clarence Thomas to replace him. Then Bush will appoint a conservative Latino judge to the highest court in our land. The Democrats' obstruction for these two appointments will allow the Republicans to show that the Democrats do not support blacks or Hispanics. And if the Democrats don't object to them, all the better for Bush.

And this is one of the less controversial theories that my Straussian advisor advocates.

I was watching the news when Bush's live speech came on yesterday, and my instant reaction was "Hi Mr. Token Mexican Man!" I feel bad for the guy, who looked like an overgrown 4th grader giving a book report. No doubt he'll be better than John Ashcroft (who, according to Bush "Quickly and fairly enforced the Patriot Act) but he looks like a massive tool.
