Dec. 8th, 2004 12:52 amI hate finals.
Actually, I don't have my first final until Friday. Thank you dead days, when I get togoof off study.
Today, I went to a talk on Asian and Eurasian demographics hosted by the Tulsa Committee on Foreign Relations. My sage research advisor invited me and a random freshman to the suit and tie affair (true to form, we college people were underdressed...I forgot that he mentioned to wear a sports coat). Wow, those downtown buildings have some nice dining options (at least to this poor college boy). I actually liked the speaker.
Things I remember Nick Eberstadt saying:
-Currently, the median age in Japan is 41. By 2025, the median age will be 50. Japan's pension system is under stress but that subject is taboo in Japanese political circles. But be assured that whatever Japan decides to do to handle that problem will have an effect on the rest of the world.
-Biologically speaking, it's normal for 105 boys to be born for every 100 girls. China has several provinces with over 120 boys being born for every 100 girls (although the actual number might be less because families hide the birth of their daughters). Again, the world will be affected by what China decides to do with its unmarriageable young men.
-Russia is in decline. The average life expectancy now is less than it was forty years ago.
I played basketball with the ole BSU crew today. I'm really out of shape. In fact, I probably need to muscle up since I still weigh less than 135 pounds (which is slightly underweight for my wiry 5'11" frame).
I got this from

Date: 2004-12-08 08:26 pm (UTC)I have a good eye for stuff like that, and I am very crafty. I actually made my living as a seamstress for some time, obviously before my accident. I have oft thought about doing dollhouses...but that is a HUGE undertaking (have you ever seen what some people do with dollhouses? It is incredible) and what would I do with them? There isn't a big market for them...or I would sell them. If I could afford it, I would make them and donate them. :)
