Random win
Feb. 23rd, 2005 09:57 pmAfter our amazing double overtime victory, we throttled our next opponent by seventeen. How'd that happen? Randomness.
To be more specific, there was this one game during the regular season where we were losing by thirty or so points so this random tall black guy came in and played for us. I think maybe two of our guys knew him. He started jacking up threes and a quite a few people were upset that he even played, since he wasn't on our team before. I didn't know what was going on.
Today, in our semifinal game, the same guy showed up. The other team called bull, but the records showed that the guy had played for us for that one game, so he was eligible to play with us in the playoffs. The guy probably shouldn't be playing in C league, but nonetheless our intramural manager allowed him on. He actually did pretty good, spreading the ball around an anchoring the center of our 2-3 defense for us. We were helped out by the opposing big guy getting into foul trouble early in the game. It also felt like we were clicking in at the fifty percent mark from the three point line.
Personally, I had a terrible play. One of the fundamentals in basketball is to always keep your hands up. We broke out on a play and I was wide open in the lane. I called for the ball, but then I put my hands down. The ball came quickly to me, but my hands weren't in position, so the ball just kind of careemed off my chest into an opposing player's hand. My whole team groaned. It turned out alright as we managed to steal the ball on the ensuing possession and score. I had a decent play tieing up the ball when this guy tried to go for a fadeaway jumper (I was behind him and stuck my long, skinny arms out).
Ah, the sweet taste of victory. Finals will be Sunday night.
