1) Total number of books owned?
-Dunno, I probably own a hundred books back home

2) The last book I bought?
-The Last Confucian, a book American involvement in Vietnam written shortly after the fall of Saigon

3) The last book I read?
-John Steinbeck's The Moon is Down

4) 5 books that mean a lot to me?
-1. Paulo Coehlo's The Alchemist, a great book about realizing one's dreams
-2. Theodore Dreiser's American Tragedy. I wrote about this and Dreiser's other great work, Sister Carrie for my junior research paper in high school. They're actually kind of boring to read because Dreiser is very descriptive in his writing. The story stands out because the American Tragedy in 1925 is still an American Tragedy in 2005.
-3. Robotech: The Macross Saga, a collection of one of my favorite science fiction novelizations. I bought them for a friend who is currently serving in Iraq.
-4. some random Psychology textbook, mostly for helping me realize that people don't always say what they mean (when I was an eighth grader)
-5. KJV Bible, one given to me when I was a kid and that I still use to this day

5) Tag 5 people and have them fill this out on their ljs:

Well, it would explain the amazing stunts the pilots routinely pull off...

Protoculture gets some sort of sentinence.
In the original, the Protoculture is, you know, a culture of a species -- not some sort of artificial fuel. Perhaps the writer tried to bridge those two interpretations, with disastrous results.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen the original Japanese series
And unfortunately, AimeEigo has discontinued selling their excellent remastered DVDs of the original series. Perhaps you can borrow a set somewhere -- it makes so much more sense than the Harmony Gold version.

although I have watched DYRL.
In DYRL, the role of protoculture is much more explicitly spelled out than in the original TV series.
