Their first apartment will inculcate many lessons to two scheming roommates. Mostly they will learn that they are rather indolent people by nature.

Dishes provide the foremost example. The two scheming roommates like to eat, drink, and be merry, but they sure don't like doing dishes. In a perfect world, each roommate would do his own dishes. Or, whoever didn't cook would do the dishes. In reality, they both had the same scheme.

Hey, I'll put my stuff on top of the other guy's and let him do it. He'll have to do it eventually.

Except neither side budges. And over a weekend one apartment's stock of plates, dishes, bowls, and skillets will be used up in the course of cooking. So the burgeoning dishes threaten to grow out of the sink.

And still, two roommates eye each other, making pointless chatter. But slowly their talks reached an impasse, becoming an internecine parley over the State of the Dishes. And then, an agreement was reached. And so peace came in our time with one roommate taking option A and one roommate taking option B. And what exactly were options A and B?

Me and my room mate all do our own dishes. There are no dirty dishes allowed in the kitchen so if we want to postpone the washing up we have to put it our stuff in our own room. Not surprising is that that works very well...
