A little bit of maturity

You ever get into a situation where you know two of your friends are about to make a mistake, and all you can do is give them advice? In the past, I would have gotten in their face and confronted them straight up about it.
But now I've matured a little, at least to the point where I know it's better for me to let other people make mistakes. How will they ever learn otherwise?
Anyone else experience this realization?

Date: 2006-04-18 08:27 pm (UTC)I think the first time I realized it was in college when a couple I knew, both of whom were my friends, had a hellacious divorce with much spit, vinegar, backbiting, etc. I didn't pick sides because I knew both of them had a lot to do with why the marriage didn't work, and there wasn't a damn thing I could tell either of them that they would hear at that time. I just stayed friends with both of them and stayed out of the muck.
As I suspected, years later, they became friends, and I was still friends with both of them. But at the time there wasn't anything I could say at all. That was where I learned that lesson...
