One day, my scheming roommate hypothetically asked me a question*:
Roomie: Would you be okay if one day I brought a girl to the room to sleep with me in my bed?
Me: Uh, no?
Roomie: Why not?
Me: Two words…child support.
Roomie: Dude, it’s not like we’re going to do anything. Why would you be so opposed to it?
Me: Hmmm, I can’t quite explain it at this moment.

But now I can explain a little better, and part of it is the fact that I was raised a Brimstone Baptist. Now that I think about it a little more, though, I see that my culture plays as big of a role, if not bigger.

A little caveat before I begin, my parents are olde fashioned. Sure there’s the new or American way of dating, but they know the old Vietnamese way.

See, things aren’t quite official until your parents meet their parents. And sleeping in the same bed, even if no funny stuff happens, would be considered going against that valuable tradition. It’d be tossing it aside and leaving it out to dry.

You can call me old fashioned.

One of my few remaining problems is finding a way to stop my scheming roommate’s ceaseless complaints of “I need a girl, Daniel. A hot girl.” Actually, that one might already be answered.

If I am out of the room, I don't mind my scheming roommate doing what he wants. He's brought a girl over when I've gone home for the weekend before. It's not like I am heartless. I told him I'd go sleep in the suite if he put a rubber band on the door to warn me (actually, I told him to put up a do not enter sign hehehe).
